8-Great Reasons to Adopt an Adult Cat
Kittens are great...but have you considered if an adult cat might be more your style?
-
Kittens do not stay small for very long. In fact, for the first 6 to 8 months of their lives, they gain an average of 1-1.5 lbs each month, so a 6-month-old kitten looks a lot like an adult cat.
- With an adult kitty, most often “what you see is what you get!” They have already grown into their personalities, so there’s no guessing about whether they will fit into your family once grown…you already know which kitty is a GREAT fit!
- Adult cats can adjust quickly and easily to new situations, often walking in like "been there, done that," or taking a small adjustment period depending on their personality.
- Adult cats are still playful and fun! Cats of all ages like to play with toys, but adult cats aren’t hyperactive and wild like kittens. They’ve already gone through their “terrible teens” so unlike kittens, they don’t climb your curtains or run the Indy 500 in the middle of the night keeping you awake!
- Adult cats don't require constant supervision like kittens do! If you work outside of your home, an adult cat is content to be home alone and snooze until you get home. A young kitten will get lonely if left home alone all day, likely to get into mischief.
- Adult cats are a much better choice than kittens for families with young children. Kittens and kids both have a hard time regulating their play, often being too rough for one another. An adult cat can be patient and gentle with kids, and best of all, knows when to walk away when things become too much.
- Adult cats can be the purrfect choice for a quieter, more serene adult household too. Their calmer, more stable personalities are ideal for a less active, mature household than their less predictable, younger kitten counterparts.
- Adult cats are super snuggly - the older they get, the more lap time they want. And when you choose to rescue an older kitty, you will find them even more cuddly and appreciative of the second chance at a happy life that you are giving them.
Thank you for thinking of adding
an adult kitty to your family!
